In this Masterclass, we unpack the Digital Technologies curriculum with practical, authentic classroom examples and highlight research that informs learning and teaching. 9:00 – 10:30 |  Session 1: Introduction to Digital Technologies (90 mins)
We start our Masterclass by unpacking the motivation behind the Digital Technologies curriculum and the fundamental knowledge and skills that underpin the subject. This knowledge is critical to motivating classroom practice, addressing misconceptions, designing authentic learning opportunities, and in being able to effectively communicate the curriculum to students, parents, colleagues, and leadership.

Learning outcome: You will be able to articulate the goals and purpose of the Australian Digital Technologies curriculum and have an understanding of what Digital Technologies careers involve. You will be able to critically think about designing Digital Technologies learning environments that are inclusive.

10:30 – 10:50 |  Tea & Coffee Break (20 mins)

11:00 – 12:45 |  Session 2: Integrating Digital Technologies (100 mins)  
In this session, we unpack the key language and concepts within the Digital Technologies curriculum and explore the content descriptors. We look at authentic examples of primary and secondary years Digital Technologies and consider how Digital Technologies can be integrated with other subject areas. We will provide opportunities for you to explore connections with your practice and Digital Technologies curriculum through facilitated activity and discussion.

Learning outcome: You will build confidence with some of the key language and concepts in the Digital Technologies curriculum and be able to identify opportunities for how you might integrate or introduce Digital Technologies into your classroom or school context.

12:30 – 13:20 |  Lunch Break (50 mins)

13:20 – 14:40 |  Session 3: Plug-in to Programming (80 mins)
We introduce resources and technology available to teach Digital Technologies at primary and secondary years and unpack the difference between ICT Capabilities and Digital Technologies. We launch into hands-on programming activities that provide an opportunity for you to apply key concepts and build confidence in using hardware and software for the Digital Technologies curriculum. As we move through the session, we consider relevant research that informs us about effective learning and teaching strategies and freely available resources that help support you in achieving your Digital Technologies goals.

Learning outcome: You will be able to distinguish between ICT Capabilities and Digital Technologies. You will have engaged in hands-on learning to build your confidence in using Digital Technologies hardware and software and how it might be effectively applied to your learning context.

14:40 – 15:00 |  Tea & Coffee Break (20 mins)

15:00 – 16:00 |  Session 4: Designing for Digital Technologies Implementation (60 mins)  

In the final session, we begin to consider how to assess student learning in Digital Technologies. We start with an overview of assessment for Digital Technologies, looking at current practices being used by researchers and classroom teachers. We then launch into an interactive session in which you work on designing a plan for your Digital Technologies goals (or expand your existing program design).

Learning outcome: You will come away with an understanding of assessment for Digital Technologies. You will have an initial design of how you plan to go about implementing Digital Technologies in your professional context.
